What would a bus stop look like if it was designed by people who use it every day?

Cork City Council Arts Office has embarked on an exciting new initiative entitled ‘Sharing Architecture’. Four architectural practices are working with four end-user groups to redesign a bus stop on the number 208 bus route in Cork. The free exhibition of their final designs from this collaborative process officially opens on June 23 at 5PM in the Atrium of Cork City Hall, as part of this year’s Cork Midsummer Festival.

This new collaborative project is using design to investigate the impact of architecture on public utilities and, by extension, on people.  The exhibition will include images, drawings and small scale models of each group’s final designs. This free exhibition will be open to the public from 9am until 5pm from June 23 to July 19.

There will also be three expert lectures held in conjunction with the exhibition launch. The first free lecture will be presented by Jim Heverin, Director, Zaha Hadid Architects, designer of the Riverside Museum of Transport in Glasgow. This takes place at 6pm on Friday, June 20 in The Atrium in Cork City Hall.

The second free lecture will be presented by Something & Son (also known as Andrew Merritt and Paul Smyth). Something & Son are a London practice who specialise in collaborative projects. This event takes place at 6pm on Monday, June 23 in The Atrium in Cork City Hall.

The third free lecture will be presented by Anne Kiernan, Chief Architect, Railway Procurement Agency at 6pm on Thursday, June 26 in The Atrium in Cork City Hall.
