énergie Fitness Cork member Eddie O’Brien launched his fundraising campaign for Endurance Challenge 2068km, taking place all over the island of Ireland this August in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research. Eddie’s training has been sponsored by énergie Fitness in a bid to have him in peak condition to complete the gruelling 10-day 1,780 km cycle through all of Ireland’s counties, averaging a whopping 175 km per day.

Eddie is new to cycling and didn’t take it up until last May. Since then, he has dramatically increased his physical potential with the assistance of énergie Fitness in Mahon, and is now set to participate in what will be his greatest undertaking yet.

“Once we heard about Eddie’s goal, we came on board to support him and this worthwhile charity. We are gradually building up his endurance in the safest and most-effective way possible,” Neil Allister, Manager, énergie Fitness Cork confirms. “Preparation is a total body process, so Eddie’s received professional guidance for his physical routine as well as his nutritional requirements.”

Eddie enthuses: “If you told me even two years ago that I would be cycling almost 2,000 km across Ireland, I would have said you were crazy! Thanks to the tremendous support I’ve received, I have surpassed my wildest expectations and am looking forward to achieving my goal and raising much needed funds for a great cause in the process.”

On 9th August, Eddie will join up to 400 other cyclists as he begins his trip in Galway City. This cycling section is just one part of the Endurance Challenge, which will cover 2068 km in 22 days. Other aspects of the event include a 120 km swim of the River Shannon and a 168 km run spanning four marathons in four days. All funds raised from the Endurance Challenge will go directly to Breakthrough Cancer Research, a charity that focuses on finding new treatment options for poor prognosis and currently incurable cancers.
