It is time to make your list and check it twice: young entrepreneurs from schools across Cork City are set to sell their creations and innovations at a Christmas Trade Fair in Blackpool Shopping Centre on Wednesday, 10th December from 10am to 2pm as part of the Cork City Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Schools Enterprise Programme. This year, some 400 students from Cork City will be taking part in the programme.

At the event, students will receive a master class on ‘How to Bring Your Product to Market’ from respected local entrepreneur Tracey Ryan, founder of Bia Beauty, an award-winning range of natural skin care which combines food and skin products.

The diverse choice of products at this year’s Christmas Trade Fair range from the ethically-motivated (a reward card to help conserve water), to the health-conscious (a children’s storybook about obesity) to the educational (history revision posters) and the social (a teenage mental health handbook).

For the first time this year, junior cycle students from first and second year have been invited to participate, and will be selling bespoke Christmas products at the Trade Fair.

One company will be chosen as the winner of the Christmas Trade Fair by judges Chris Dorgan, Cork City Council and business owner and florist Fiona Donnelly of Sakura Floral Design and Flowers in Bloom.

Speaking about the event, Adrienne Rodgers, CEO of Cork City Local Enterprise Office (LEO), said: “The Christmas Trade Fair is a fantastic way for schools and students to showcase the products they work on in their mini-companies. Year on year, we find the bar is set to a higher standard, and we have been particularly impressed by the calibre, imagination and innovation behind this year’s creations. We would really encourage teachers and students to participate in the Schools Enterprise Programme, and we would remind them that it’s not too late to get involved this year.”

Secondary schools from across Cork City are invited to participate in the Cork City Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Schools Enterprise Programme, which is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among students. Students are invited to set up and run their own businesses, working in every aspect of business development.
