Cork Midsummer Festival has brought the moon to Cork with the installation of Museum of the Moon at Nexus Hall, Cork Institute of Technology (CIT).

Open for free public viewing, the giant moon is in-situ as part of Cork Midsummer Festival until tomorrow, Friday (9am-8.30pm). The internationally toured work by artist Luke Jerram measures seven metres in diameter, and features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. People of all ages are invited to bathe beneath the moonlight and experience an atmospheric soundtrack created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer, Dan Jones.

The installation is sponsored by O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors along with JCD Group and Urban Green Private, and coincides with the International Space University’s 30th Annual Space Studies Programme (SSP17) hosted by CIT.

The 10-day Cork Midsummer Festival runs until Sunday, June 25, with this year’s festival a fusion of opera, literature, theatre, dance, music and visual art. It also includes family-friendly festivities, talks and a wide choice of free events.
