Tuula Harrington wins Jewellery Designer of the Year

Cork-based Jewellery Designer and Goldsmith, Tuula Harrington of Designworks Studio, has won Jewellery Designer of the Year at The Irish Fashion Innovation Awards 2012, which were held last Thursday, 5 April, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Galway city.

Tuula’s award winning pieces include her new Tribal Warrior Collection. This collection uses unique materials such as Buffalo horns, sourced from a sustainable herd of Indian Water Buffalo along with precious metals such as, sterling silver, 18ct. yellow gold and white sapphires. All Tuula’s pieces are designed and made at her Designworks Studio in Cork City.

Commenting on winning the award Tuula said, “Once again this year, The Fashion Innovation Awards was a fantastic event and I would like to thank everyone involved. I like to combine the precious metals of my craft and carefully selected gemstones and diamonds with more unusual organic materials. I am delighted to have this unique collection recognised by my peers.”

The Buffalo collection is an evolution from last year’s SARVI (Antler) Collection and once again challenges the contemporary perception of the value and power of adornment.

The prestigious awards give visibility, support and a voice to young design talent throughout Ireland, offering a fantastic opportunity for their work to be shown to a jury made up of fashion design experts.
